Jen Swansiger sent an update today about Heartsong KFX aka Halle (EH Herzensdieb x HPM Capistrana OBX / Contucci).
"We recently did a ride with the Cleveland mounted police, Halle went through paved streets in a busy industrial area and encountered trains, boats and construction. We then rode through a large park in Cleveland called Edgewater and then down to the beach and saw Lake Erie. She took everything in such amazing stride. I am so proud of her... I want her to be a good all around girl and have been doing a lot of trail rides as well as some working equitation and jumping in addition to our dressage and she just has the best brain. "
What a great day!!!  Thank you Jen for sharing your day with us and the lovely photos of the two of you!!

I received this photo of Halifax KFX aka Tango from his owner Carol Campbell saying that he is in Scottsdale AZ for a show.  Then I received the second photo saying that he is Champion USHJA 2'9"!!!  Way to go Tango!! Congratulations to Carol, Kari his rider and to his favorite groom...and everyone else involved in his success!!  We are so proud of Tango and thank you for keeping us informed!!  He looks sooooo good!!!

We are so excited to hear about our foals and how they are doing with their new owners. This is Heartsong KFX aka Halle, with her owner Jen Swansiger. This past weekend, they performed their first musical freestyle at a show near Cleveland, OH. Here is Jen’s response when I asked how they did:
“Great! She got a 68% in her first level freestyle and won the class (we even got prize money!) yesterday we rode first level test 3 (first time showing this test) and scored a 63%,- 3rd place, she felt tired and it was very hot so I scratched my second test. So proud of her ”
Thank you Jen for sharing your successes with us and also for putting Halle’s needs before showing. We are excited to hear about your next adventure!!!

Our Dulcimer Breeze KFX aka Tucky (Dacaprio x SPS Komtess V/Riverman) had the pleasure of attending the Equine Affaire in Columbus Ohio.  He was representing the Hanoverian breed and on display on Saturday and Sunday.  He did great!  For never going to a show with big crowds, he handled it like a pro.  The people LOVED him!  He LOVED all the attention and treats!!!  Thanks to our daughter, Makailyn Kelly, (shown here with me) who came and stayed in Columbus to take good care of him.

We received this photo of Halifax KFX aka Mack, now known as Tango, from his owner Carol Campbell.  He was shown at Scottsdale and did great for his first away show.  Carol said she recently got to ride him and calls him a "Dreamboat because all his gaits are so smooth."  We LOVE it when our babies are doing well for their new owners.  Here is the photo she sent.

February 2025

Two weeks after losing our Rivita, we learned that our very good friend and mentor, Don Kapper, had passed away.
Don and Dee came into our lives in 2013 through mutual friends, Don and Joy Chapin.  The Chapins, who were our neighbors when we were in Hilliard, OH, invited us to go visit a Hanoverian breeding farm with them.  Little did I know that we were looking at horses that were for sale, but Kevin did, as well as the Chapins.  The Chapins ended up buying three of the Kapper's Hanoverian horses and we ended up with three; SPS Komtess V aka Rivita, Rhea OBX and Rufina OBX.  Rivita was in foal to Contucci and when her foal was born, we named her Capistrana OBX aka Capper, in honor of the Kappers.   We became fast friends and I learned so much from Don about equine nutrution and how foals grow.  Don was always ready to answer my questions and offer help.  Don and Dee have a special place in our hearts and Don will be forever missed.
Don, give Rivita a big hug from us and Rivita, give Don a good ride.

These photos were taken in April 2024, the last time Don and Dee had visited our farm.  Don and Rivita had a special bond and mutual love for one another.

January 2025

1/30/25 we said goodbye to our beloved Rivita. SPS Komtess V aka Rivita: (Riverman x Flora I/Carolus)
Rivita was a States Premium, Holsteiner mare who was also approved Hanoverian and ISR/Oldenburg NA. She was 16.3h and bears the world proven influence of Landego, Calypso II, Landgraf I and Cor de la Bryere. She was imported from Germany and before joining us at KFX Farms, was owned by Hilltop farm and then by Don and Dee Kapper of Outer Banks Farms. We thank Don and Dee Kapper for entrusting us with such a wonderful and special mare.
Rivita (Riverman – Carolus) was one of Hilltop Farm’s best producers, including many Site Champion foals. Rivita herself was an overall ‘8’ mare with the AHS. She earned 9’s & 10’s on her jumping at her Holsteiner approvals in Germany. She was the 1999 Reserve Grand Champion of Dressage at Devon and was a successful competitor through Third Level.
Here are a few of Rivita’s earned credentials as shared with us from Don Kapper:
1) 1999 Reserve Grand Champion Dressage at Devon
2) Shown successfully through Third Level
3) Champion of her approval in Germany, earning 10's for jumping ability and technique and 9's for her movement, both Rivita and her dam, Flora, are States Premium mares.
4) Overall '8' mare with AHS - including 9's on head and impulsion/elasticity
5) Premium Mare w/ ISR/Oldenburg - 108 points
6) At Dressage At Devon in 2008, Rivita won the Produce of Dam class and her offspring won both of the Hanoverian IBC classes, Conturri, for 3 & over, and Constantine, for 2 & under. Both Conturri and Constantine are sired by Contucci.

Rivita came to us in 2013, already in foal to Contucci. For us at KFX Farms, she foaled HPM Capistrana OBX (Contucci), Dulcimer Breeze KFX (Dacaprio) and HPMC Hermione KFX (EH Herzensdieb). After her last foal in 2017, Rivita was retired to be "Grandma" and was a wonderful babysitter for our foals. She was such a sweet and gentle mare with us. In the end, her arthritis was just too much. She laid down and was ready to go... we weren't. As we waited for the vet to arrive, she calmly laid there and I stroked her head and told her how wonderful she was. When I stopped stroking, she would nuzzle me to continue. She was so peaceful throughout the procedure and I was thankful. Kevin and I are forever grateful to have had Rivita as part of our family and our KFX broodmare band. She will be sorely missed. Rivita was 6 months shy of her 30th birthday.

August 3, 2023

It was Inspection day at Oakwood Farms in Lawrenceburg IN.  We presented our 2023 colt, Hatteras KFX at the side of his dam, HPM Sole Fiore KFX.  The judges loved him but he was a little too wound up to show them his potential.  They did comment on his "beautiful neck set and head" that EH Herzensdieb stamps on his foals, his "athletic type" (he did a lot of "fancy leaping") and what little trot they did see, "was very rhythmical".  They remembered his full sister from last year (Honorine KFX) and that she was a Gold Medal Foal, and also a lot more relaxed.  They felt he was of the same "excellent type" but was just not showing it that day.  They said we probably see it at home when he's more calm.  Yes...yes we do.  Haha!!!

It's been a long time coming but our Decatur KFX has finally got his forever human!!  We are so excited for Decatur and Amelia Buragas!  We decided to hang on to Decatur for a few more years than normal because of him not putting on weight and growing like all of our other foals.  It turns out he had some ulcers.  Once we figured out the problem and got him on the road to recovery, he just blossomed into the stud muffin that he is....for a gelding.  He's the sweetest guy and we are so happy for the two of you!  Welcome to the KFX family, Amelia!  We hope to hear about all the exciting adventures that you two will share!

Hermione KFX

UPDATE: Hermione's new owner sent me this text:  "Hermione's new trainer left me a voice mail and said that her breeder should just keep going with that cross and hope they're all as nice as Hermione.  I've heard that same thing said multiple times by multiple trainers, vets, etc...wanted to pass that along."  Since Hermione was the last foal out of Rivita, we continue this breeding with her daughter, Capistrana.  We are very pleased with the three that she has produced!

Hermione KFX has a new barn name...Hazel!!!  Her new owner, Beth Trenter, let us know that "Hazel" did very well at her first show with the judge commenting "Lovely horse.  Training going in the right way.  Keep up the good work."  Hazel ended up being high point!  At her next show, she received three blue ribbons!  Way to go Hazel!!!

KFX colts go to an inspection!!

Our 2020 fillies missed going to their foal inspection because of Kevin's accident and caring for his mom.  But our 2021 colts made their Inspection debut at Meg William's Oakwood Farm.  Halifax KFX (EH Herzensdieb x HPM Capistrana OBX/Contucci) showed some wonderful movement but was a little too concerned about his brother to show up to his potential.  Hailstorm KFX (ES Hampton x EM Senza Parole/Scolari) did show well and earned the Gold Medal Foal award.  We are very proud of both boys!!

we love to hear about our horses from their new owners!!!

We recently received this wonderful message from Mary Lynn Griswold, the new owner of HPM Rhea OBX:
"I wanted to say thank you to each of you and the others who contributed to bringing Rhea up to be such a wonderful mare. Took her to a clinic which required about a 45 minute trailer ride today and was the first time she had left the barn in over a year. She was an absolute angel, trusting, kind, and willing. It is clear that the way she has been trained and raised has made her a very loving and secure horse. We had a good ride attempting second level and she was absolutely perfect. We stood and watched the horse before us for almost an hour and she just snuggled with me tried to eat people's donuts and was very curious about all the chickens running around. Thanks to all of you for bringing her up so well."    WAY TO GO RHEA!!!  Thanks Mary Lynn for sharing your experience with us!!

2021 we have our first home bred hanoverian premium mare candidate!!!

Our coming 4 year old mare that was recently sold had her private Mare Inspection and Mare Performance Test before relocating to her new home in AZ.  We are so proud of HPMC Hermione KFX (EH Herzensdieb x SPS Komtess V aka Rivita/Riverman)!  She is following in her parents' hoof steps!!!

We are expecting two foals in May 2021

We are excitedly anticipating the arrival of two foals in May.  EM Senza Parole is expecting an ES Hampton foal, and HPM Capistrana OBX is expecting an EH Herzensdieb foal.  You can read more about it on our "Foal Watch" page.

2o2o on KFX Farms...

The year started out good for us in that we had our first two beautiful foals, fillies, born here on our farm in Wilmington, Ohio.  Then the pandemic happened.  In May, Kevin's mom, who had Alzheimer's, came to live with us when her husband went into the hospital. Next, in June, Kevin was in an accident on the farm that left him with 8 pelvic fractures, and a few other injuries, which landed him in the hospital for 10 days and then in a hospital bed at our house for a month. Thankfully, friends stepped in to help with our animals, Kevin's mom, and food prep.  Because of a lot of prayer from so many people, Kevin healed in half the time the doctors told us he would.  Thank you Lord Jesus!
Our dear friends, Don and Dee Kapper offered to take our two mares and their fillies for a couple of months to help us out.  What a blessing!  We were also able to take some of our other horses to be trained or bred, so we went from 11 horses at our farm down to 4.  That made it much easier for me (Melinda) to handle.  Kevin gained strength daily and was eventually able to help out at the farm again and with his mom.  In late October, his mom went into a memory care facility and on December 4th, she passed away.  Not at all what we expected, but she did not want to be there long...and she got her wish.
So, it is now March of 2021... Kevin is back to 100%, all of our horses are back with us, and we are all doing well.  We are looking forward to working more on building our farm and to our two expected foals, due in May.  Life is good!

I had the privilege of seeing the best show in town here at KFX Farms!! In the lead roles were our lovely bay mare, HPM Capistrana OBX with her equally lovely EH Herzensdieb daughter, Heartsong KFX. Also starring our dazzling chestnut mare, EM Senza Parole with her shining daughter, Hampton’s Hijinx KFX. What a show!! Soundtrack is available wherever birds are flown.

Fillies were 1 and 1.5 months old in this video.

We have another filly!!!

On April 16th at 1:50 am our mare, HPMC Capistrana OBX, gave birth to a beautiful bay filly.  The little one is named for her sire, EH Herzensdieb, meaning Heart Thief.  We have decided to name her Heartsong KFX.  We will call her Halle.  Because of this lovely foal, our Capper is now a Hanoverian Premium Mare!!!  HPM Capistrana OBX.  WooHoo!!!
Picture

we have a name!!!

We have decided on a name for our April Fool's Day filly...pending it's acceptance by the AHS.  Thanks to our daughter, Breawn Schoun, who came up with Hijinx, because of the day the filly was born and the fact that I like "X's" in words.  Haha!!  Kevin wanted to add Hampton's name to make it sound more formal. So KFX Farms LLC would like to introduce to you.....
Hampton's Hijinx KFX!!!

September 2019   Finnomenon KFX wins the 3 year old  colts/geldings Materiale class!!!

Finnomenon KFX did not disappoint!  Finn did very well at his first Dressage at Devon competition.  He won his 3 yr Old Colts/Gelding Materiale class with a 87.8!  He came in 3rd in his In-Hand class with a 82.75, behind two stallions.  Finn also took first place in the 3 yr Old Prospect Award (combined scores of Materiale and In-Hand classes), and he was the 1st place winner for the Born In The USA 3 Year Old.  He was Reserve Grand Champion in the USDF Breeders Championship Series with a score of 82.925.
Thank you Ann Dever for getting Finn there and taking him this far!  This would not have happened without you!

june 2019

We received confirmation of heartbeats for our two mares that were bred this year.  We are expecting two foals for 2020, one by ES Herzensdieb out of our maiden mare Capistrana OBX and another by ES Hampton out of our EM Senza Parole.  They are both due early April of 2020.
HPMC Sole Fiore KFX, Feenix KFX and Finnomenon KFX will be showing at Brave Horse in Sunbury Ohio the weekend of July 12-14, 2019.  Good luck to Ann Nagle and the Kelly Sport Horses/KFX Farms LLC Team!!!  Finnomenon KFX, aka Finn, will be making his showing debut there.  Later, Finn will be showing in Raleigh, NC to qualify for Dressage at Devon later this year.  HMPC Sole Fiore KFX and Feenix KFX will be shown at Lamplight to qualify.  An exciting show year for KFX!!!

2018...a year of change!

In July, Sole Fiore KFX (aka Ferrari) and Capistrana OBX (aka Capper) were shown at Mill Creek Equestrian Inspection site and both became Hanoverian Premium Mare Candidates, with Capper being the Top Mare at that site.  Ferrari will continue her show career another year while we decided to breed Capper for a 2020 foal.  Capper will be taking her dam's (Komtess V aka Rivita) place in our breeding program.  We were so excited to bring Capper home from Ann's farm.  We had missed her.
In August, we finally moved all of our animals (horses, dogs, cats, chickens, ducks and geese) from our previous farm in Hilliard, OH to our new farm in Wilmington, OH.  We moved from a completed farm to one where we have to build everything for the horses.  There were existing barns that we could use for all of the other animals.  Kevin lived in Wilmington for the past year, building our horse pasture and run-ins (and other farm-related things) while I stayed in Hilliard taking care of the animals.  Once in Wilmington, we had to carry water almost daily to water the horses. In November, we started to run a 2" water line over 3,000 feet back from the road, crossing two creeks, to where our horses were being housed.  It took us 6 weeks but we finished just before Christmas!
In October, Ann Nagle took both Sole Fiore KFX and Feenix KFX to Dressage at Devon.  They both did well with Feenix being Champion 2018 Dressage Sport Horse Breeding Horse of the Year for Three Year Old Colts/Geldings and Fifth place for Materiale Horse of the Year for the same age.  Yeah Kelly Sport Horse/KFX Team!!!

dEC 2017   WE HAVE A NATIONAL CHAMPION!!!

We are very pleased to announce that our Sole Fiore aka Ferrari was the National Grand Champion 3 Year Old Materiale Filly!!!!
Thanks, Ann, for getting her there for us!  We couldn't be more proud!!

On Sunday in the Raleigh Summer Dressage II show, Ferrari scored an impressive 83.5 in her Three Year Old Fillies Materiale class!  We are so proud of our girl, Ferrari, and Ann for getting her this far!!!  Thanks Ann for all of your hard work!!
Ann and Ferrari are headed to Dressage At Devon next month.  GOOD LUCK ANN AND FERRARI!!!

July2017    ahs Inspection is in the books....with a kfx top filly!!

We just returned from the AHS Inspection at Oakwood Farm and our Hermione KFX was a Top Filly!  We took Rivita and Hermione, along with Rhea and Decatur.  Both showed well in the ring, but the judges really liked our breeding of Rivita with Herzensdieb.  Hermione just strutted her stuff and everyone loved it!  We are thrilled and it was just the "pat on the back" that Kevin needed since he decided on this cross.  WooHoo!!
